We made it!
After a long drive from Edmonton to Vancouver to play The Heatley on Tuesday night, the Lucette crew and I rolled into boot camp around lunchtime on Thursday. Big big thanks to Mark Times and his bandmates for driving out my partner in crime Andrea. Rockridge Canyon is beautiful. We’re nestled in a little mountain valley in southern BC on a man made lake. The first day was so much fun, we were greeted by a full taco bar to fill our bellies before an afternoon of songwriting with our partners. Dustin and I put the finishing touches on our tune and can’t wait to put it to “tape” tonight. The Lucette boys and I went for a dip in the very chilly lake and spent the rest of the afternoon warming up for the big game.
The big event of the day was the annual ball hockey game. Despite a lengthy winning streak by the faculty, the artist team pulled off a convincing win. I was between the pipes – which proved to be an easy task with the stingy artist defense in front of me. I was able to rob Scott “Franalog” Franchuk of a couple sure goals.
Day 2 isa busy one for Andrea and I. We have our rehearsal with the house band and our one on one style workshop with Kate Matthews in the afternoon, and Dustin and I record our bed track tonight with Carly McKilop. I can’t wait for the first full day of boot camp, and all the days that follow. I’m so happy to be a part of this program with all of these amazing artists.
