Monday evening we were treated to the last of the artist showcases. Each night has been an experience unto itself, and has showed off the amazing and varied styles that exist in Alberta country music today. From Lucette’s “murder ballads” to the uptempo and interactive set of Nice Horse, the night started out with a bang! Mark Times followed the intermission with a really cool 50’s rock/country vibe, and was the first group of the night to incorporate an upright bass. Andrea Nixon closed the show with a tight traditional country playlist that acknowledged her roots and warmed the crowd.
With such a diverse group of artists, it’s so hard to pick a favourite. They’re all so good and so talented, I wish the judges luck!
