Project WILD would like you to know each of the 2017 Top 12 even better. We prepared five questions for each of the artists/bands to help us learn a little more.
1. What brought you to country/roots music?
What brought me to country/roots music was the musical tastes of my Dad and my Uncle Dee. I remember listening to my Dad sing Merle around the campfire and my Uncle Dee, who lived in our basement when I was young, and had the sweetest leather page boy cap, always having Bruised Orange, by John Prine playing in the old cassette deck.
2. When did you write your first song – as an artist or as a band?
The first song I remember writing was called “Deep Water”. It was a song I wrote for the youth group I was helping with. It was a bad church youth group song but hey, it still counts:)
3. If you could go on tour opening for any performing artist right now who would it be?
Well, Bruce Springsteen has always been my hero for how he relates to his audience and yet provides an unprecedented rock star show. So he’d be my ultimate choice. But a close second is Corb Lund. I’d love to spend time on the road visiting, writing, and sipping brews with him.
4. What is the best trend in country/roots music right now?
I suppose it would be artists like Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, and others being recognized for how incredibly talented and original they are.
5. What part of Project WILD are you most looking forward to?
The reason I applied was to get a chance to hang with like minded artists at the retreat in BC. So absolutely, it’s the boot camp! Everything else is bonus.
