Project WILD would like you to know each of the 2019 Top 12 even better. We prepared five questions for each of the artists/bands to help us learn a little more.
- What brought you to country/roots music?
I grew up with it playing in the house and fell in love with it – my parents always had a Dixie Chicks or CCR record playing at home and I was constantly singing along with the radio as a kid. I’m told all the time that my voice still “sounds country” even when I sing different genres of music, and I think that’s because I learned how to sing by copying what I heard on country radio. Country music is in my bones.
- When did you write your first song – as an artist or with a band?
As soon as I learned how to play my first three chords on guitar, I immediately wrote a song. I was 14 years old and it was called “I’m Gonna Miss You” – very original title, right? 😉 Songwriting is part of my DNA and the foundation of everything I do as an artist.
- If you could go on tour opening to any performing artist right now, who would it be?
Kacey Musgraves or Lizzo. Both artist are amazing songwriters who know exactly what they want to say and aren’t afraid to say it and I love the energy that they bring to their live shows. I really aspire to be like them both.
- What is the best trend in country/roots music right now?
I love that heartfelt storytelling is really making a commercial comeback right now – artists like Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, and Kacey Musgraves have released great records in the past few years that highlight the core of country music, which to me is great storytelling.
- What part of Project WILD are you most looking forward to?
I am looking forward to getting to Bootcamp and really digging into who I am as an artist, focusing on my goals, and getting to know the other artists in the program better as well. I also can’t wait for the songwriting collaboration with Mark Times – I’m a big fan of his writing style and can’t wait to see what we come up with!
