5 Questions with Lucette

Project WILD would like you to know each of the 2017 Top 12 even better. We prepared five questions for each of the artists/bands to help us learn a little more.

1. What brought you to country/roots music?

I grew up on 90’s country, I remember my first CD was Shania Twain’s “The Woman in Me”. It may have even been a cassette tape… But it was my Grandma, Lucette, who introduced me to classic country music. To this day, she still has CFCW playing on the radio in her kitchen 24/7. From there, I pretty much became obsessed with Elvis, Patsy Cline, Ray Charles, and Johnny Cash, who to this day, inspire me.

2. When did you write your first song – as an artist or as a band?

I wrote my first song in the 6th grade. And it was terrible. But it started a spark in me that inspired me to continue improving and growing as a singer/songwriter.

3. If you could go on tour opening for any performing artist right now who would it be?

That’s a tough question. But i’d have to say someone who is legendary in my mind, like Tom Waits. Plus he’s hilarious and I feel like it would be the best hangs. Him or Willie. Or Neil Young. Can’t make up my mind!

4. What is the best trend in country/roots music right now?

I think the roots revival trend is really important. Artists like Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, Brent Cobb, Margo Price, and Lindi Ortega are bringing back original and soulful music with their own twist. I think being a country/americana artist has little to do with the obvious, and more to do with wanting to write songs that everyone can feel and relate to. Whether it be a farmer in Alberta, or an executive in a high-rise, my goal is to write such great songs that anyone can listen to them and feel them in the pits of their souls.

5. What part of Project WILD are you most looking forward to?

I’m most looking forward to getting to know all of the other artists at bootcamp. I think it’ll be cool to be immersed completely in music with no other distractions. I hope to grow as an artist and learn from other talented folks! Plus, It’ll be a blessing to have no cell phone reception!
