Project WILD would like you to know each of the 2016 Top 12 even better. We prepared five questions for each of the artists/bands to help us learn a little more.
1. What brought you to country music?
I actually used to listen to a ton of rap and hip hop music. It was while living at my folks house still that as a punishment I was asked to go to the Edmonton Folk Festival. I heard Roots/country music there for the first time. Artists that sing from and to the soul of the audience. Watching how music like this could change the very moments we find ourselves in amazed me. At the core of country, this is what got me excited about it.
2. When did you write your first song – as an artist or as a band?
I wrote my first song after I had pulled my hamstring running a 200M race. I had a long road to recovery with nothing but a guitar and a few chords. It just seemed to come out. Now, every new chord, new idea, is like a new tool in the toolbox.
3. If you could go on tour opening for any performing artist right now who would it be?
Foy Vance – He’s not country but the guy has nothing but soul in his voice and lyrics.
4. What is the best trend in country music right now?
Jason Isbell is not new to the scene but he was new to the Country charts. His stripped down music, poignant lyrics, and lyrics that can rip a hole into whatever walls you’ve spent time building has me excited for where country is going.
5. What part of Project WILD are you most looking forward to?
To be totally honest, I am super excited to learn. I’ve been “organically” playing music professionally for 3 years and really would love to learn how to take my music to the next level. There are so many people to learn from that are a part of this and am looking forward to sucking out all the info I can!
