Project WILD would like you to know each of the 2019 Top 12 even better. We prepared five questions for each of the artists/bands to help us learn a little more.
- What brought you to country/roots music?
My entire family was brought up on country music. It’s all we ever listened to in the car and all we ever played when we first started playing as a family band when we were kids. The story telling is what kept me hooked on it till now. I remember singing Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton songs and loving the lyrics. From then on it was just the kind of music that you connected to whether it be to cry to or just for a good time.
- When did you write your first song – as an artist or with a band?
If we are really looking back, I wrote my first song when I was about 7 years old, though I don’t know if it was any good. Then I wrote my first real song when I was 12 and didn’t ever stop writing after that. I’ve continued to soak up as much as I can and learn and develop my craft as I continue to grow as a person.
- If you could go on tour opening to any performing artist right now, who would it be?
Keith Urban hands down. He has written some of the most honest and captivating music, combined with his skills as a musician that has brought so many different tones to country music. Not to mention he is a hell of a performer.
- What is the best trend in country/roots music right now?
I’m digging the amount of rock influences in country music. It’s created so many bold artists and brought a whole new element to the table that really catches your attention.
- What part of Project WILD are you most looking forward to?
Learning, Learning, Learning. It is so rare that artists are presented with such an amazing opportunity where all of the resources are there for you to take and better yourself as an artist. Not to mention when you get a bunch of artists together, the kind of stuff that you create and learn is on a whole other level.
