Project WILD would like you to know each of the 2017 Top 12 even better. We prepared five questions for each of the artists/bands to help us learn a little more.
1. What brought you to country/roots music?
I was born into country music as I grew up on a family farm west of Crossfield. Country music was always a staple in our house, and at our family functions. I definitely branched out and listened to a little bit of everything, but it seems that country music was always the home base that I always returned back to, as much of the music related strongly to my everyday life, and still does to this day.
2.When did you write your first song – as an artist or as a band?
I wrote my first song in probably 2000ish. It was a humorous song about the struggles of farm life, and a play on the old joke, that if you play a country record backwards you get your house back, your wife back, your dog back!! I wrote the song as a tongue in cheek play on that joke, and it was always popular around campfires with friends.
3. If you could go on tour opening for any performing artist right now who would it be?
Wow that is a big question, as I feel there are so many great artists out there to choose from. The artists that speak to me include folks like Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton, and I think it would be an amazing experience!!
4. What is the best trend in country/roots music right now?
I think there is a bit of a resurgence of the outlaw country sound, and bringing some of the grit and truth of struggle back to the genre. I also feel that the comradery of the industry right now is fantastic, as everyone really seems to be open to collaboration and helping each other as artists.
5. What part of Project WILD are you most looking forward to?
I am looking forward to the entire process and learning as much as I can to be able to avoid the pitfalls that are out there. I want to learn what to avoid in the industry and where to focus my energy to be able to maximize my time and money to the fullest extent, and avoid costly mistakes. I feel like this is an amazing opportunity to meet and learn from some amazing industry professionals and have the ability to ask all the questions i’ve ever had and get a straight answer. I am also really looking forward to working with a fantastic group of artists and learning and growing together!!
