5 Questions with Brad Saunders

Project WILD would like you to know each of the 2017 Top 12 even better. We prepared five questions for each of the artists/bands to help us learn a little more.

1. What brought you to country/roots music?

Growing up in Glovertown, Newfoundland it seemed as though i was constantly surrounded by Country music. If it wasn’t from the traditional “Newfie kitchen jam” at our house every other weekend or cranked on the home stereo system while my mom would clean the house, you could be sure that my dads 1977 GMC Sierra truck was tuned to the local country radio station at any giving moment. I listen to several other genres of music but nothing moves me like Country music.

2. When did you write your first song – as an artist or as a band?

When i was 8 years old i worked for the fish Plant in my home town. I met a guy that became a mentor to me. He was a singer / songwriter. My earliest memory of songwriting was with him. I didn’t get serious about writing songs until much later in life when i was giving a guitar for my 25th Birthday. At that time i started to write a song called “Hey Country Girl” not knowing that particular song was going to be the start of my musical pursuit.

3. If you could go on tour opening for any performing artist right now who would it be?

That’s a hard question! There are several acts i would love to go on tour with, but if i had to choose one i would have to say Dierks Bentley. He seems like a very classy, humble guy.

4. What is the best trend in country/roots music right now?

I find one of the best trends in Country music right now is more about the listeners ability to be open minded. Country music crosses over so many genres and the fans are open to these concepts allowing the music to constantly evolve.

5. What part of Project WILD are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to every aspect of Project WILD. Having been fortunate enough to have been in this program previously i can say that it is absolutely incredible in every way. Building friendships, the camp, recording, songwriting and most importantly continually growing as an artist by learning the necessary tools to transcend in the music business.
